Have you ever wondered where can you find the best possible student services? Well, you're in luck! Golden West College, located at 15744 Goldenwest St, Huntington Beach, CA 92647, has the best possible student services for all students! Today I had the pleasure of meeting with the Homeless Liaision at Golden West College & I learned so much about their services as well as how they help students experiencing homelessness. Not only do they offer amazing financial aid & access to great outside resources, such as shelters & food banks, but they also have many on-campus resources.
The two on-campus resources that this article will focus on are "The Stand" & "The Rack". The Stand is Golden West College’s Food Pantry. It is a resource for all currently-enrolled students to shop (at no charge) for grocery items made available to meet their nutritional needs. They partner with Second Harvest & receive a variety of different foods weekly, such as canned goods & KIND bars. The Stand has foods that contain a variety of the following items:
Dairy
- Butter
- Cheese
- Yogurt
- Milk
Protein
- Chicken
- Pork
- Meatballs
Produce
- Potatoes
- Onions
- Apples
- Melons
- Celery
- Cabbage
- Carrots
Dry Goods
- Canned Fruit
- Rice
- Oatmeal
- Beans
- Peanut Butter
- Pasta
All of the food items are organized in great ways to make The Stand an easily accessible resource for all students. In addition to having many different food items, they also provide kitchen supplies, such as can openers, to ensure that students will be able to eat anything & everything that is provided.

Now that you have seen how amazing The Stand is, let's talk about The Rack. The Rack is GWC’s professional closet. It provides clothing for currently enrolled students who may have an interview, a semi-formal event, or any other need for business-appropriate attire. The Rack also offers free hygiene products, such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, bar soap, & feminine hygiene products. Students are able to receive one full outfit per semester & can get up to 2 hygiene products per visit.
All clothing items are organized by size & type so that students can easily find what they are looking for. In addition to providing clothing items, The Rack also has shoes and business accessories, such as belts, to provide students with a complete professional look. There are also mirrors around the room so that students can easily see themselves and their outfits!

The Stand and The Rack are connected so that students can get all of their necessary items in the same place. They are also managed by incredible staff who are there to help if you have any questions or even if you just want someone to talk to!
Overall, Golden West College has truly incredible student resources. The Stand and The Rack are just two of many provided by GWC. Project WHY is now partnering with GWC & will become a new resource for students experiencing homelessness! We are so grateful for this opportunity & are excited to help more individuals experiencing homelessness share their stories!
